Resumes and Interviews
How to write resumes, and interview, like professionals who get hired
Let's skip to the good part: this is the set of tactics that took me from "unemployed" to "employed" to having my dream job.
No snake oil, no motivational epithets - this is just what worked for me, and what I look for in candidates now that I hire people.
For example:
- Did you know that you can steer the direction of an interview without your interviewer ever knowing it? (Hint: it's in the content you include in your resume.)
- Did you know that every interview answer should be about 4 sentences and no more? You may be rambling.
- Did you know that you are practically guaranteed a higher salary than you're offered?
In this course I set out the entire process of getting a job, from looking at a job posting to negotiating a final offer. Of course, there's plenty of time spent on how to author an effective resume, how to prep for an interview so you feel relaxed not anxious, and how to answer interview questions (good news: there's a formula).
But Blake, surely this isn't really free. What are you selling?
I might sell something later. If so, I'll be listening to the audience of enrolled members to see if it's something they'll love. For now, I just want to pay it forward.

Blake secured his dream job in 2015, after much trial and error.
Now an analytics manager at PlayStation, he had a dream of working in video games since he was a child in the 90s.
Scratch that -- a stable job in video games, after being fired from one and laid off from another.
On his path he wound up finding his strengths, leaning into them, and figuring out how to communicate them in interviews. But he didn't do it alone - there were numerous friends and relatives who shared their wisdom, not to mention many clever people on the internet.
As a way to pay it forward, he's created this site.
